Welcome

Welcome to the IUPHAR Pharmacology Education Project for learners in pharmacology and clinical pharmacology. If you would like to help influence future development of the PEP, please spare a few minutes to complete our user survey.

The IUPHAR Pharmacology Education Project (PEP) is your definitive resource for mastering the fundamentals of pharmacology.

We have transformed IUPHAR’s  database of receptors and ligands—a world-class tool used by drug developers and researchers—into accessible educational content for all. PEP is specifically designed to support learners, academic scientists, and industry professionals who are just beginning to navigate the mechanisms of pharmacology and clinical pharmacology. We aim to bridge the knowledge gap and strengthen the discipline worldwide. We invite you to learn more and contribute to expanding this vital resource!

How to Use the PEP as a tool to guide your learning

As you navigate the website, you will notice areas of learning are divided into topics the represent the pillars of our study:

  • Pharmacology: The basic principles of pharmacology
  • Clinical Pharmacology: The basic principles of pharmacology, clinical pharmacology and toxicology that underpin rational prescribing
  • Drugs: Commonly used drugs (including mechanism of action, indications for use, appropriate route of administration, contraindications and adverse effects)
  • Therapeutics: The management of common acute and chronic therapeutic problems

Each section has a side menu with subtopics to explore. Each subtopic offers an overview at the top with currated resources and further reading below.

Who is IUPHAR?

Founded in 1959 as a section of the International Union of Physiological Sciences, the International Union of Pharmacology became independent in September, 1965. The name was changed to the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology in 2006 to better reflect the composition of the membership.

Webinars

IUPHAR is proud to partner with Elsevier to present the Pharmacology Education Initiative Webinar Series.

IUPHAR Education Section (IUPHAR-Ed)

IUPHAR-Ed is a dynamic global community of educators in basic, clinical and translational fields of pharmacology. We have recently introduced new initiatives to actively promote access to educational materials, collaboratively develop new resources, discuss matters related to pharmacology education and more.
